I’ve been on the road a lot lately and it’s made me aware of something I didn’t know about signatures and how mobile email clients deal with them.

If I get an email to my iPhone and I am too busy (ie. don’t have enough hands) to type a response, I will simply click (touch) on the phone number in the signature and the handset dials the sender for me. Love it! I can deal with the enquiry or issue on the fly.

However recently I have noticed that businesses are getting fancy with their signatures and doing a beautiful graphic at the foot of each email. These look great but guess what? The footsoldiers that are roaming around the country side conducting their business from their smart phone are denied an easy way to call these people back.

It’s hard to ascertain whether or not this is a bad thing for the company producing the graphic or not, but I would think that any strategy you employ that reduces the ease with which someone can call you is not the best move.

Anyway, I’m only one person. Would be interested in some other opinions…feel free to coment.

Till next time

We recently started playing with ‘The Flip’ Camera. In fact we are flipping out over them!

Flip Camera’s are small video cameras that fit in your pocket, similar in size to a mobile phone, but as powerful as a full on camcorder. In fact thats what they are. The video quality is great – HD is available in their range, and they can store up to an hours footage (2GB) on their inbuilt flash drive.

When it’s time to access the video on your computer, at the push of a button a USB plug flips out from the side of the camera and it can plug straight in to your PC or mac. Here’s the best part though. The editing software is in the camera. This means that it doesn’t matter what computer you are on, you have access to an editing suite that you are familiar with and can get your video off the camera and edited as you like, ready for your presentation, for a client or even to directly send to Youtube.

We love them, and can’t rave enough. So much so we’ve decided to give a Flip Mino away to every new customer or every existing customer that wants to agree to a 24 month term on their land line. Full details of the offer and full flip camera specs can be seen here.

If you simply want to buy one outright you can get them from the crew at www.itmadesimple.com

Any questions, please call 1300 720 591 or email flip@telcotalk.com.au

Till next time

Welcome to the Telcotalk Blog! We’re excited to be here and look forward to seeing some great information, comments, feedback, suggestions, acknowledgements and even critiques flowing through the pages as the content builds. We will be concentrating on posting industry specific news, views, comments and ideas. Please feel free to contribute through our comments section.

A Quick Note About Telcotalk

I began building Telcotalk 3 years ago after a disappointing experience with with my provider. I don’t think it would be proper to name this publicly listed behemoth that was responsible for letting me down but at the end of the 6 month process I endured I actually found a manager that could help me. She was very good and my problem was resolved in short order. It got me thinking ‘wow, why did it take 6 months and countless phone calls and transfers to find somebody that was ACCOUNTABLE and could even MAKE DECISIONS’. These large telco’s are so top heavy that no one can make a decision, no one is held accountable for what actions they take and therefore no one is concerned with any follow up once the call is over.

Telcotalk is built on this concept. We ensure that you can speak to the same person more than once. You can have a relationship with a person at your phone company! Our staff are accountable to our customers because they can’t hide like in the larger telco’s. This makes a big difference because we make sure we ‘get it right’. If you prefer, you can email your requests direct to your account manager, rather than call through.

Feel free to check out our website and offers including fixed line, mobile and broadband. If you are a business we can tailor a plan to suit your usage. The Telco industry is one of many ’smoke and mirror’ offers. You need to ask yourself ‘how important is your telephone to your business?’ ‘Are you getting the most out of it?’ ‘Can you get access to information about your phones easily?” Are you using your phones to make your business run smoothly and efficiently?’ ‘Is there a better way?’ We can annalyse all this with you and take the noise out so you can concentrate on what it is you do best. You can send off an online enquiry or just give us a call on 1300 720 591 and have a chat.

Till next time
